Case study: BOAO Forum for Asia
The BOAO Forum for Asia (BFA) is a non-profit organisation that hosts high-level forums for leaders from government, business and academia in Asia and other continents.
BFA is committed to promoting regional economic integration and bringing countries of the Asia Pacific Region even closer to their development goals. Leaders share their visions on the most pressing issues in the Region and the world at large.
Proposed in 1998 by Fidel V. Ramos – former President of the Philippines, Bob Hawke – former Prime Minister of Australia and Morihiro Hosokawa – former Prime Minister of Japan, BFA was driven by the People's Republic of China and founded by 26 Asian and Australasian states on 27 February 2001, with the first Forum taking place in 2002.
In 2016 Melbourne was honoured to host its very first BOAO Forum for Asia bringing together more than 250 regional and international leaders from across business and government to share their visions of "The Future of Globalisation".
