Since Melbourne pharmacist, Danielle Di Pilla placed her product range Goat Skincare online with Tmall Global –China's largest online marketplace and a division of the Alibaba Group – the financial rewards have been substantial.

Di Pilla sold a whopping A$1 million worth of her products in just 24 hours during Alibaba's 2016 Singles Day – the world's largest online shopping event – and her skincare range has continued to be the biggest-selling Australian product on Alibaba for the second year in a row.

E-commerce platforms such as Alibaba have provided export opportunities for Victorian family operated businesses such as Di Pilla's  to trade freely in China's booming online retail market, with relatively small set-up costs.

Di Pilla is confident that Global Victoria's initiative to provide incentives for Alibaba Group to choose Melbourne as its Australian and New Zealand headquarters will help level the playing field for Victoria's business owners because "we've got more ready access to the Alibaba network which will help get our products into China more easily".
