Sports & Sports Technology: India April 2020
The Victorian Government, through Global Victoria invites Victorian sports and sports technology organisations to join a trade mission to Mumbai and Delhi, India from 6 to 9 April 2020.
This will be our fourth outbound sports related trade mission to India, which has led to 8 to 10 Victorian companies actively engaging with the India market. The mission presents an opportunity to maximise the possibilities for these companies, while providing key opportunities to introduce new players.
India’s market offers an exciting opportunity to Victorian sports and sports technology exporters due to the Indian Government’s commitment to improving sports systems and facilities and strong support and investments from the private sector.
The Khelo India Program offers scholarships of $10,000 for eight years to 2500 talented players and includes modernisation of sports infrastructure and facilities across the country.
The Fit India Movement is encouraging the country to be serious about physical fitness to counter lifestyle diseases. The premise of the Fit India Movement is to reach out to the Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities and towns by leveraging fitness-tech, fitness trackers and online fitness platforms.
From the private sector, the establishment of private-sector backed sporting leagues like Indian Professional Leagues (IPL), Hero Indian Super League and the Pro Kabaddi League and the burgeoning sports retail and fitness industry are generating direct spending from private sector groups and/or end-customers, providing direct market access for sports technology companies to offer their products and services without going through the bureaucratic hurdles of government.
Additionally, India will be hosting major events like the U17 FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2020 and the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup in 2023 – events that will provide further opportunities for collaboration in the sports area.
