Saudi Arabia has announced significant changes to customs duty rates.

In February 2017, Saudi Arabia raised the customs duty rates applied to 193 products from 5 per cent to 25 percent.

The products impacted by the increased customs duty include poultry, meat, dairy, other certain consumer products, fertilizers, chemicals, electrical hardware, cables and building materials. These increases are being enforced with immediate effect including shipments already in transit.

The decision is an effort to increase non-oil revenue and reach fiscal balance by 2020.
