Thanks to a new partnership agreement between the Victorian Government and Ctrip – China’s biggest online travel agency – the numbers of Chinese tourists visiting our great state are set to rise.
The agreement, signed in Shanghai on 26 July 2017 aims to promote our state to Ctrip’s registered user base of more than 250 million people.
Victoria is a popular destination choice for Chinese people, attracting more than 570,000 visitors (25 per cent of them from Northern China) who spent around A$2.6 billion in the twelve months from March 2016.
A new Visit Victoria office will also be set up in China’s capital city, Beijing to strengthen ties, promote our state and entice key airline partners to offer more direct flights to Victoria.
Six airlines already offer direct flights to Melbourne from China to accommodate the record amount of Chinese tourists visiting our shores.
The Victorian Government will hold discussions with major sports diplomacy groups in China to explore new opportunities to further cement Victoria’s reputation as the sporting capital of Australia.

The new deal with Ctip not only provides a significant opportunity to promote all that Victoria has to offer to millions of people, it will also create more jobs for Victorians, while strengthening the state’s economy.
