Southeast Asia Insights Autumn 2023
Exciting opportunities with Southeast Asia have taken centre stage in recent months, with extensive travel to Melbourne by delegations from across the region.
Creating connections through fashion and sport
Buyers from across Southeast Asia attended the PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival, an annual celebration of fashion, art, ideas and creative endeavours. Victoria welcomed 10 buyers from Indonesia, Singapore and Vietnam and will continue to work across the region to support Victorian designers and businesses wanting to go global.
Victoria also welcomed delegates from across the globe to the SportNXT 2023 Summit, an innovative sports leadership summit that gathers global leaders from all sectors of the sports industry to create, share and connect.
The two-day conference featured an unrivalled group of domestic and global leaders, plus an opportunity to explore Melbourne’s world-class sporting infrastructure.
Global Victoria hosted delegates from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines and Singapore working in various sectors, including sporting infrastructure, e-sports and gaming, and government authorities.
Strengthening research links with Indonesia
Victoria partnered with Indonesia’s National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) to hold the two-day BRIN-Victoria Research and Innovation Forum in February.
Victoria’s Lead Scientist, Amanda Caples (pictured on the far right) led a delegation from five Victorian universities that travelled to Jakarta to take part in the forum. All five universities had opportunities to present on their Higher Degree by Research programs to over 400 BRIN researchers in attendance.
The forum provided an important platform to identify and secure opportunities in higher education, research and innovation.
Upcoming opportunities in food and investment
The Investor Partner Summit Asia 2023 will be held in Singapore on 30 May. The summit is an invitation-only event that will bring together venture capital firms, institutional investors, startups, corporates and government representatives from Southeast Asia.
Over 100 attendees are expected to attend from the region and will showcase Victoria as an investment and innovation destination for investors and tech companies.
Food and Hotel Indonesia will be held in Jakarta from 25 to 28 July. Held in conjunction with Hotelex Indonesia and Finefood Indonesia, Food and Hotel Asia will be Indonesia’s biggest trade exhibition of supply products for the hospitality and food and beverage industries.
