Victoria welcomes delegates to the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit

Victoria was pleased to welcome a substantial delegation that travelled to Melbourne to take part in the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit.

Hosted in Melbourne from 4-6 March 2024, the Summit celebrated the 50th anniversary of Australia’s dialogue partnership with ASEAN and provided a platform for businesses and leaders to engage with counterparts from across the region.

The Victorian Government, including Global Victoria and the Victorian Government Trade and Investment offices in Southeast Asia, supported organisations and individuals to participate in the Summit and its side programs across the 4 thematic tracks of: business; climate and clean energy; emerging leaders; and maritime cooperation.

Highlights from the Summit’s side programs included AustCham ASEAN’s release of its Australian Business in ASEAN Survey (2023-2024) and the opening of the Australia Vietnam Policy Institute’s (AVPI) Front Door, followed by an Australia Vietnam Business Forum.

Both the Prime Minister of Vietnam H.E Phạm Minh Chính and the Premier of Victoria spoke at the Business Forum, which focused on the economic relationship between Australia and Vietnam. Vietnamese Airline VietJet also announced a new Melbourne-Hanoi flight route at the event, increasing connectivity and the ease of travel between our cities.

As part of key activities that took place on the margins of the Summit, Global Victoria, alongside Asialink Business and AustCham ASEAN, brought together business, government and industry leaders at a welcome reception hosted by the Treasurer of Victoria and Minister for Economic Growth.
