Doing Business with the Americas

Global Victoria, in partnership with Regional Development Victoria, delivered a series of in-person ‘Doing Business with the Americas’ seminars in regional areas including Geelong (hosted by the City of Greater Geelong), Morwell, and Ballarat in April 2024.

The seminars provided an opportunity to hear valuable insights on key trends, opportunities and exporting strategies from Global Victoria’s trade specialists visiting from the US and Latin America, Brian Carnahan and Pablo Schatz.

Events for regional businesses in the Hume region were also delivered by Global Victoria and Startup Shakeup, supported by Greater Shepparton Council & Committee for Greater Shepparton, Moira Shire, Rural City of Wangaratta and Business Wodonga.

The events highlighted opportunities for doing business in the USA and Canada, and how to connect with Global Victoria’s expanded trade team in the USA, including trade specialists for Health & Life Sciences, Defence, Technology, Food & Beverage, Consumer Products, Manufacturing and Sustainability sectors.

Victoria’s Growing Sports Technology Cluster

SportNXT delegates pose for their photoVictoria is Australia’s sporting capital and has a growing sports technology cluster. This was evident in March 2024 when Victoria hosted global sports leaders (including a delegation of buyers and investors from the USA) at the SportNXT conference.

There are a number of Victorian companies, such as Catapult, Rosterfy, PMY Group, EngageRM, making significant contributions in the US sports industry.

On the margins of SportNXT, Nigel Warren, Commissioner for Victoria to the Americas moderated a US Capital Raising Panel Discussion with two US investors at Stone and Chalk for Victorian entrepreneurs.  This in-person event followed the series of three webinars focused on raising capital in the US Global Victoria held in 2023.

Support to Victorian Mining & METS companies in Canada

In March, the VGTI team attended the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada Conference (PDAC), one of the world’s largest and most renowned mining events.  The VGTI facilitated engagement and access to networking opportunities for Victorian METS companies seeking access to clients and partners across the Americas.

Canada is a leading mining jurisdiction and is a globally significant producer of platinum, gold, nickel, copper, iron ore, titanium, uranium, potash and many rare earth elements. The total value of Canadian mineral production in 2021 was $55.5 billion, and exploration budgets have grown to decade highs in the previous two years.

In May 2024, Global Victoria will lead a trade mission to CIM Connect Canada's premier mining trade show featuring hundreds of companies showcasing the latest in mining equipment, technology, services and products.
