Creating and strengthening trade routes between Victoria and Aotearoa New Zealand with a Aboriginal Trade Mission for food and beverage companies.

The second Victorian Government Aboriginal trade mission will take place in February 2024, with a food and beverage focus. The Aboriginal Economic Development (AED) branch in the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions (DJSIR) will lead the trade mission, with support from Global Victoria.

What types of businesses should apply?

This trade mission is targeting Aboriginal-owned food and beverage businesses that want to start exporting or grow their exports.

Places are strictly limited.

Why should you apply?

This trade mission will support Aboriginal businesses to build their export readiness and make relevant connections in Aotearoa New Zealand, to support their export growth.

The trade mission program will include briefings, business matching, networking opportunities, site visits and cultural exchanges.

Export development training will be provided before, during and after the trade mission to help businesses get the most from their participation.

New Zealand is a springboard to global opportunities for new and early-stage exporters. It is Victoria’s closest international trading partner and is one of the easiest international markets in which to do business. This makes New Zealand an excellent market for new exporters to get a grasp on export essentials before taking on the world.

For Aboriginal businesses, the business case for New Zealand is even stronger. The Māori economy contributes $17 billion to New Zealand’s gross domestic product (GDP) each year, from an asset base of almost $70 billion (2018 figures). This creates significant opportunities for Māori and Aboriginal businesses to work together.

What's included?

The Victorian Government will support program-related expenses.

Delivery of this mission will be determined by the number of applications received and may be subject to change. Participation is subject to approval by AED and Global Victoria.
