Peru presents a significant growth opportunity for Victorian exporters, particularly in the Mining Equipment, Technology and Services (METS) sector. The country ranks 2nd globally in the production of copper, silver, and zinc, and is also among the top four producers of lead, tin, and molybdenum. Its vast mineral reserves continue to attract strong international investment, reinforcing Peru’s strategic role in global supply chains for both base and precious metals.
Mining remains a cornerstone of Peru’s economy—contributing approximately 15% of GDP and accounting for 65.2% of total exports. The country currently operates around 200 active mines and boasts a robust pipeline of 51 mining projects valued at US$54.5 billion. These include both greenfield (new mines) and brownfield (expansion) developments, highlighting continued private-sector confidence and sustained industry growth.
For Victorian METS companies, Peru offers a highly attractive and competitive market. It features streamlined import processes for equipment, reduced bureaucracy, and a stable legal framework that guarantees equal treatment for domestic and foreign investors. These advantages create an ideal environment for Victorian businesses looking to expand into Latin America’s mining sector.
