Governor Gretchen Whitmer has served as the 49th governor of Michigan since 2019 and is a leading figure in the Democratic Party. Appointed by former President Joe Biden, she served as a vice chair of the Democratic National Committee from January 21, 2021 until February 1, 2025.

Prior to being elected, Governor Whitmer served as a member of the Michigan House of Representatives from 2001 to 2006 and as a member of the Michigan Senate from 2006 to 2015.

Governor Whitmer is visiting Victoria to champion new trade and investment opportunities between Michigan and Australia, strengthening ties in advanced manufacturing, clean energy, and innovation.
