Victorian exporters gain direct access to one of the world's most lucrative markets.

London just got closer for Victorian exporters with British Airways announcing a new daily direct service between Melbourne Airport and London Heathrow, launching in January 2027 via Kuala Lumpur.

The UK is already Victoria's 12th largest air freight export market, valued at $376 million, and the new route will make it faster and more cost-effective for Victorian exporters to do business in one of the world's most valuable trading destinations.

More flight options mean greater freight capacity, more competitive logistics costs, and easier movement for the people who drive export outcomes — whether that's sales teams making first contact or trade mission delegations deepening strategic partnerships.

Research from the 2025 Melbourne Airport Economic Report found that a single daily international service contributes an estimated $190 million in gross value add to Victoria's economy and supports 2,000 FTE jobs, underlining how much new air connectivity matters for growth.

British Airways is part of the International Airlines Group, the world's third largest airline group, connecting Victoria to more than 285 destinations globally through its wider network.

The route reinforces Victoria's standing as Australia's premier hub for international business, strengthening the trade, talent, and tourism links that underpin the State's economy.
